Ayurveda the science of life, provides many ways to tackle the disorders successfully. Not only treating unhealthy individuals, Ayurveda mainly helps to maintain the healthy state of mind and body.
Ayurveda is been an ancient practice of medicine which aims at “Protecting the health of healthy person, and curing the unhealthy”.

Swarna Prashana (Suvarna Prashana) also known as Swarna bindu prashan is an unique Ayurvedic preparation that is known to enhance the immune power of human body.  Swarna means gold and Prashana refers to act of consuming. 

Swarna Prashana is considered as one of the Shodasha Sarakara  (16 essential rituals) described in ayurveda for children.

According to Ayurveda our body needs to get right nourishment to support proper physical and mental development that can sustain till the old age.


Maharshi Kashyapa says,
  
 Swarna prashana develops medha (mental ability), agni (digestive power), bala (strength), aayu vardhana(prolonged life span), it is also Mangalakara(brings in good virtues in child, positive attitude in life, optimism, power to overcome mental and physical hardships, good fate), Vrushya(attractive nature and personality), Varnya(tones skin colour), Graha baadha nashaka(voids away associated evils). If swarna prashana is done regularly for 1 mth then child becomes extremely intelligent and remains unaffected by any infective diseases, If taken for 6 months regularly then child will be shrutadhara excellent grasping.

Swarna Prashan is therefore recommended to be taken immediately after birth and continued till the age of 16 year.

Ingredients of Swarna Bindu Prashana

Swarna Bhasma / Gold
Vacha
Shankh Pushpi
Brahmi
Guduchi satva
Yashti madhu
Ashwagandha
Shuddha Madhu / Hone
Ghee(cow)

Time and duration to give Suvarna Prashan


 Every day Morning in the empty stomach or On the day of Pushya Nakshatra. The drops should be given by the parents to the baby in empty stomach.

Daily dose of Swarna bindu prashana should be given for minimum of 1 month to maximum of 3-6 months.
OR
Monthly once for minimum of 30 Months to maximum of 90 months on the day of Pushya nakshatra ( Pushya Nakshatra day comes once in 27 days )

Dosage of Suvarna prashan drops


Birth to 1 Year – 2 Drops
1 to 16 Years – 4 Drops

How Does It Work?


Swarna Prashana (Suvarna Prashana) contains gold as the main ingredient. It is made into suvarna bhasma through a special process because gold cannot be consumed in its metallic form. Gold is known to boost immunity as well as enhance memory.

Another important ingredient present in Swarna Prashana (Suvarna Prashana) is the honey. Honey is prepared by collection of pollen grains. Since pollen grains are known to cause allergic reactions, consumption of honey in very low doses is believed to gradually prepare the body to fight against other allergens. Honey is also known to act against inflammation and improve digestion.

Ghee or Ghrita which is the third important component of Swarna Prashana (Suvarna Prashana), acts as an effective medium in which herbal medications can be prepared. Ghee or Ghrita shows unique properties of acquiring the medicinal values of herbs added to it.

Importance of Pushya Nashatra


Pushya refers to nourishment and pushya nakshatra is one of the most auspicious of the 27 nakshatras.  The symbol of pushya nakshtra is the cow udder.

Cow udder is associated with nourishment and so the Swarna Prashna is taken on pushya nakshatra to get optimum nourishment and benefits.
